The children of disadvantages families in Tanzania don´t automatically get to go to school. The work of even small children is valuable for the family and purchasing obligatory books and school uniforms is not possible for poor families. By paying 30 Euros / year you give one child the chance to go to school. Children in Tanzania start Primary School usually at the age of 7 and go there until they are 15 years old. Children send post to their godparents.

Anita Priscus is an eight years old girl with sad eyes. She lives with her sister Suzana at her grandparents home. Anitas father is in prison and her mother left the family in order to get married again. Anita´s grandfather has raped her when she was five years old. Her grandmother has to keep watch when the girls are home at the same time with their grandfather. Right now Anita is staying at the day care center where she likes to be in a safe environment. Anita´s grandparents are poor so she hasn´t had the chance to go to school. 

 

 

Suzana Priscus has found a godparent from Finland

 

Finns call Suzana Suski. She is very happy about the nick name. Suski is Anita´s little sister. She is seven years old. Suzana was also almost raped by her grandfather but her grandmother was able to prevent the situation. Suski is more outgoing than her sister and she likes to be near safe adult company. Suzana, like her sister, is also ready to go to school.

 

 

Judith George has found a godparent from Finland

 

Judith is patient and polite seven years old girl. Judith lives with her mother, grandmother and her sister. Judith´s mother Lydia works at the day care center as a cook and she is the only one in the family who has a job. The whole family is living out of Lydia´s salary which is 20 Euros / month. Judith´s mother is HIV positive but Judith herself is not infected.

 

 

Become a godparent for a child at the day care

As a godparent for a child at the day care you will give his or her parent a chance to go to work and a secure place to stay for the child. HIV is still a taboo in Africa and many times infected people are excluded from the family. However HIV positive people still have many good years in front of them and they are also able to work. Without the family´s support they have to leave their children home alone while going to work.

As a godparent you will ensure the child a safe place to stay during the day and two nourishing meals. Children in Tanzania attend Nursery School for two years, when they are 4-6 years old. The godparent fee is 15 Euros / month. Children send post to their godparents.

Samuel is a happy and lively four years old boy. He lives with his mother and his little sister Darcas. His father divorced his mother before he was born. Samuels mother is HIV positive and works at the day care as a teacher. Samuel takes eagerly part at everything at the day care center and he likes to play with little toy cars.

Ida is very active little girl. She is five years old. Ida´s mother is in a mental hospital. Her father divorced her mother when he found out his wife´s illness. Ida lives with her grandmother who is very old and can´t keep up with the lively girl. Ida has a lot of energy and she is often playing with the boys.

Ivone is a charming six years old girl who always has her hair beautifully braided. Ivone lives with her mother and her little brother in very poor conditions. Ivone´s father left her mother before she was born. Her mother left her at the floor of a toilet right after she was born. Her mother was imprisoned for many months but she agreed later to take care of her daughter. Ivone likes to laugh and her laughter is very contagious.

Neema is a sweet six years old girl. She is the youngest of her big family. Neema´s family is living on extreme poverty. Both of her parents are HIV positive. Neema herself is negative. When Neema was a baby she had a big abscess in her head and she often suffered from headaches. Neema likes to cook in an imaginary kitchen with the other girls.

Johnson is four years old charmer and tiny for his age. Johnson got HIV from his mother when he was born. Johnson lives with his mother and his big sister. His father is an alcoholic and can´t provide for his family. Johnson´s mother Lydia works as a cook at the day care center. She gets paid about 20 Euros / month. Johnson is not shy and he mesmerizes easily everyone with his beautiful eyes.

 

 

Edward John is looking for a godparent

Edward, or Mr Edu as he is called at the day care center, is proper showman. He knows the moves and he loves to dance. Edu is six years old and he is living with his grandparents. His mother is dead and his father left few years ago. Edu is HIV positive and he has a bad hearing due to repeating ear infections.

 

 

Donate education

Getting HIV is not the end of the world. Despite the infection, life has to go on and the children need to be fed. Same Sun NGO wants to give possibilities for HIV positive women who often have to bear the burden by themselves and alone. By getting training for a certain profession the women have better chances to take care of their families and they can also show example for others. Life can go on despite HIV infection.

Upendo Shukrani is a mother of two. Samuel is four and Dorcas eight. Upendo´s husband left her when he heard about the HIV infection. Later he died of AIDS. Upendo works as a teacher at the day care center in Rau. Her dream is to get teacher´s qualification. Teacher´s training in Tanzania costs about 250 Euros which at the moment is way too much for Upendo. Her monthly wage is 40 Euros / month.
